Gregory was a pope who starting in the year 590 is famous for working to create a dynamic church that was secular and powerful.
Don't remember what secular means? Look it up!
Boniface VIII was a pope who fought with the French King in 1300. He was trying to reassert his power of the Kings of Europe (as previous popes had). But this was after the power of the popes diminished due to the crusades. This would lead to a conflict that would further diminish the church's authority: The Great Schism.
