A Day

New Vocab:

Heresy: holding religious beliefs that differ from the teaching of the church

Inquisition: a court held by the church to suppress heresy

Heretic: one who commits heresy

Exam: The exam will look pretty much like your middle ages unit syllabus. You will NOT be tested on objectives # 5 and #8.

I will include one additional question on the exam: "How did the authority of the Catholic Church change over the course of the middle ages? Explain with 5 specific details."

The answer for this question can be found throughout the unit, not in one place. Please consider the rise of church power mirroring the rise of the Frankish Empire (worksheet: "Charlemagne unites German Kingdoms"), crusades, inquisition, serfdom, results of the black death, and the various popes we talked about.

Here is another hint: The power of the church rose steadily, peaked, and then declined. Fill in the appropriate details.

Vocab to be added to your syllabus: Magna Carta, Common Law, Gregory VII, and Boniface III.
